KG	Ímé, megnyitom már az én szájamat, és a beszéd nyelvem alatt van már.

KG	Igaz szívből származnak beszédeim, tiszta tudományt hirdetnek ajkaim.
AS	My words `shall utter' the uprightness of my heart; And that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

KG	Az Istennek lelke teremtett engem, és a Mindenhatónak lehellete adott nékem életet.
AS	The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Almighty giveth me life.

KG	Ha tudsz, cáfolj meg; készülj fel ellenem és állj elő!
AS	If thou canst, answer thou me; Set `thy words' in order before me, stand forth.

KG	Ímé, én szintúgy Istené vagyok, mint te; sárból formáltattam én is.
AS	Behold, I am toward God even as thou art: I also am formed out of the clay.

KG	Ímé, a tőlem való félelem meg ne háborítson; kezem nem lészen súlyos rajtad.
AS	Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, Neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.

KG	Csak az imént mondtad fülem hallatára, hallottam a beszédnek hangját:
AS	Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the voice of `thy' words, `saying',

KG	Tiszta vagyok, fogyatkozás nélkül: mocsoktalan vagyok, bűn nincsen bennem.
AS	I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me:

KG	Ímé, vádakat talál ki ellenem, ellenségének tart engem!
AS	Behold, he findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for his enemy:

KG	Békóba veti lábaimat, és őrzi minden ösvényemet.

KG	Ímé, ebben nincsen igazad – azt felelem néked – mert nagyobb az Isten az embernél!
AS	Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just; For God is greater than man.

KG	Miért perelsz vele? Azért, hogy egyetlen beszédedre sem felelt?
AS	Why dost thou strive against him, For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?

KG	Hiszen szól az Isten egyszer vagy kétszer is, de nem ügyelnek rá!
AS	For God speaketh once, Yea twice, `though man' regardeth it not.

KG	Álomban, éjjeli látomásban, mikor mély álom száll az emberre, és mikor ágyasházokban szenderegnek;

KG	Akkor nyitja meg az emberek fülét, és megpecsételi megintetésökkel.

KG	Hogy eltérítse az embert a rossz cselekedettől, és elrejtse a kevélységet a férfi elől.

KG	Visszatartja lelkét a romlástól, és életét hogy azt fegyver ne járja át.

KG	Fájdalommal is bünteti az ő ágyasházában, és csontjainak szüntelen való háborgásával.
AS	He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, And with continual strife in his bones;

KG	Úgy, hogy az ő ínye undorodik az ételtől, és lelke az ő kedves ételétől.
AS	So that his life abhorreth bread, And his soul dainty food.

KG	Húsa szemlátomást aszik le róla; csontjai, amelyeket látni nem lehetett, kiülnek.

KG	És lelke közelget a sírhoz, s élete a halál angyalaihoz.

KG	Ha van mellette magyarázó angyal, egy az ezer közül, hogy az emberrel tudassa kötelességét;
AS	If there be with him an angel, An interpreter, one among a thousand, To show unto man what is right for him;

KG	És az Isten könyörül rajta, és azt mondja: Szabadítsd meg őt, hogy ne szálljon a sírba; váltságdíjat találtam!

KG	Akkor teste fiatal, erőtől duzzad, újra kezdi ifjúságának napjait.

KG	Imádkozik Istenhez és ő kegyelmébe veszi, hogy az ő színét nézhesse nagy örömmel, és az embernek visszaadja az ő igazságát.

KG	Az emberek előtt énekel és mondja: Vétkeztem és az igazat elferdítettem vala, de nem e szerint fizetett meg nékem;

KG	Megváltotta lelkemet a sírba szállástól, és egész valóm a világosságot nézi.

KG	Ímé, mindezt kétszer, háromszor cselekszi Isten az emberrel,
AS	Lo, all these things doth God work, Twice, `yea' thrice, with a man,

KG	Hogy megmentse lelkét a sírtól, hogy világoljon az élet világosságával.
AS	To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

KG	Figyelj Jób, és hallgass meg engem; hallgass, hadd szóljak én!
AS	Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: Hold thy peace, and I will speak.

KG	Ha van mit mondanod, cáfolj meg; szólj, mert igen szeretném a te igazságodat.

KG	Ha pedig nincs, hallgass meg engem, hallgass és megtanítlak téged a bölcseségre!
