KG	Micsoda haszna van az embernek minden ő munkájában, melylyel munkálkodik a nap alatt?

KG	Egyik nemzetség elmegy, és a másik eljő; a föld pedig mindörökké megmarad.
AS	One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth for ever.

KG	És a nap feltámad, és elnyugszik a nap; és az ő helyére siet, ahol ő ismét feltámad.
AS	The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to its place where it ariseth.

KG	Siet délre, és átmegy észak felé; körbe-körbe siet a szél, és a maga keringéséhez visszatér a szél.
AS	The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it turneth about continually in its course, and the wind returneth again to its circuits.

KG	Minden dolgok mint fáradoznak, senki ki nem mondhatja; nem elégednék meg a szem látván, sem be nem teljesednék hallásával a fül.

KG	Van valami, amiről mondják: nézd ezt, új ez; régen volt már száz esztendőkön át, melyek mi előttünk voltak.

KG	Nincs emlékezet az előbbiekről; azonképpen az utolsó dolgokról is, melyek jövendők, nem lesz emlékezet azoknál, akik azután lesznek.
AS	There is no remembrance of the former `generations'; neither shall there be any remembrance of the latter `generations' that are to come, among those that shall come after.

KG	Én prédikátor, királya voltam Izráelnek Jeruzsálemben.

KG	És adám az én elmémet mindazok vizsgálására és bölcsen való tudakozására, melyek lesznek az ég alatt. Ez gonosz hiábavaló foglalatosság, melyet adott Isten az emberek fiainak, hogy gyötrődjenek vele.
AS	And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.

KG	Láttam minden dolgokat, melyek lesznek a nap alatt, és ímé minden csak hiábavalóság, és a léleknek gyötrelme!
AS	I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.

KG	Az egyenetlen meg nem egyenesíthető, és a fogyatkozás meg nem számlálható.

KG	Szóltam az én elmémmel, mondván: ímé, én nagygyá lettem, és gyűjtöttem bölcseséget mindazok felett, akik fők voltak én előttem Jeruzsálemben, és az én elmém bőven látott bölcseséget és tudományt!
AS	I communed with mine own hear, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem; yea, my heart hath had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

KG	Adtam annakfelette az én elmémet a bölcseségnek tudására, és az esztelenségnek és bolondságnak megtudására. Megtudtam, hogy ez is a lélek gyötrelme.
AS	And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind.
