KG	Bölcs szívű és hatalmas erejű: ki szegülhetne ellene, hogy épségben maradjon?
AS	`He is' wise in heart, and mighty in strength: Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?-

KG	Aki hegyeket mozdít tova, hogy észre se veszik, és megfordítja őket haragjában.
AS	`Him' that removeth the mountains, and they know it not, When he overturneth them in his anger;

KG	Aki kirengeti helyéből a földet, úgy hogy oszlopai megrepedeznek.
AS	That shaketh the earth out of its place, And the pillars thereof tremble;

KG	Aki szól a napnak és az fel nem kél, és bepecsételi a csillagokat.
AS	That commandeth the sun, and it riseth not, And sealeth up the stars;

KG	Aki egymaga feszítette ki az egeket, és a tenger hullámain tapos.
AS	That alone stretcheth out the heavens, And treadeth upon the waves of the sea;

KG	Aki teremtette a göncölszekeret, a kaszás csillagot és a fiastyúkot és a délnek titkos tárait.
AS	That maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south;

KG	Aki nagy dolgokat cselekszik megfoghatatlanul, és csudákat megszámlálhatatlanul.
AS	That doeth great things past finding out, Yea, marvellous things without number.

KG	Ímé, elvonul mellettem, de nem látom, átmegy előttem, de nem veszem észre.
AS	Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: He passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

KG	Ímé, ha elragad valamit, ki akadályozza meg; ki mondhatja néki: Mit cselekszel?
AS	Behold, he seizeth `the prey', who can hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou?

KG	Ha az Isten el nem fordítja az ő haragját, alatta meghajolnak Ráháb cinkosai is.
AS	God will not withdraw his anger; The helpers of Rahab do stoop under him.

KG	Hogyan felelhetnék hát én meg ő néki, és lelhetnék vele szemben szavakat?
AS	How much less shall I answer him, And choose out my words `to reason' with him?

KG	Aki, ha szinte igazam volna, sem felelhetnék néki; kegyelemért könyörögnék ítélő birámhoz.
AS	Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer; I would make supplication to my judge.

KG	Ha segítségül hívnám és felelne is nékem, még sem hinném, hogy szavamat fülébe vevé;

KG	Aki forgószélben rohan meg engem, és ok nélkül megsokasítja sebeimet.

KG	Nem hagyna még lélekzetet se vennem, hanem keserűséggel lakatna jól.
AS	He will not suffer me to take my breath, But filleth me with bitterness.

KG	Ha erőre kerülne a dolog? Ímé, ő igen erős; és ha ítéletre? Ki tűzne ki én nékem napot?
AS	If `we speak' of strength, lo, `he is' mighty! And if of justice, Who, `saith he', will summon me?

KG	Ha igaznak mondanám magamat, a szájam kárhoztatna engem; ha ártatlannak: bűnössé tenne engemet.
AS	Though I be righteous, mine own mouth shall condemn me: Though I be perfect, it shall prove me perverse.

KG	Ártatlan vagyok, nem törődöm lelkemmel, útálom az életemet.

KG	Mindegy ez! Azért azt mondom: elveszít ő ártatlant és gonoszt!
AS	It is all one; therefore I say, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

KG	Ha ostorával hirtelen megöl, neveti a bűntelenek megpróbáltatását.
AS	If the scourge slay suddenly, He will mock at the trial of the innocent.

KG	A föld a gonosz kezébe adatik, aki az ő biráinak arcát elfedezi. Nem így van? Kicsoda hát ő?
AS	The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covereth the faces of the judges thereof: If `it be' not `he', who then is it?

KG	Napjaim gyorsabbak valának a kengyelfutónál: elfutának, nem láttak semmi jót.

KG	Ellebbentek, mint a gyorsan járó hajók, miként zsákmányára csap a keselyű.

KG	Ha azt mondom: Nosza elfelejtem panaszomat, felhagyok haragoskodásommal és vidám leszek:

KG	Megborzadok az én mindenféle fájdalmamtól; tudom, hogy nem találsz bűntelennek engem.

KG	Rossz ember vagyok én! Minek fárasszam hát magamat hiába?

KG	Ha hóvízzel mosakodom is meg, ha szappannal mosom is meg kezeimet:
AS	If I wash myself with snow water, And make my hands never so clean;

KG	Akkor is a posványba mártanál engem és az én ruháim is útálnának engem.
AS	Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, And mine own clothes shall abhor me.

KG	Mert nem ember ő, mint én, hogy néki megfelelhetnék, és együtt pörbe állanánk.
AS	For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, That we should come together in judgment.

KG	Nincs is közöttünk igazlátó, aki kezét közbe vethesse kettőnk között!

KG	Venné csak el rólam az ő vesszejét, és az ő rettentésével ne rettegtetne engem:

KG	Akkor szólanék és nem félnék tőle: mert nem így vagyok én magammal!
