AS	Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and, behold, the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

KG	És dicsérém én a megholtakat, akik már meghaltak vala, az élők felett, akik még élnek;

KG	De mind a kettőnél boldogabbnak azt, aki még nem lett, aki nem látta azt a gonosz dolgot, amely a nap alatt történik.
AS	yea, better than them both `did I esteem' him that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
KJV	Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

KG	És látám én, hogy minden dolgát és minden ügyes cselekedetét az ember az ő felebarátja iránt való irígységből rendeli; annakokáért ez is hiábavalóság és lélek-fájdalom!
AS	Then I saw all labor and every skilful work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.
KJV	Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

KG	A bolond egybekapcsolja a kezeit, és megemészti a maga testét.
AS	The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
KJV	The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.

KG	Jobb egy teljes marok nyugalommal, mint mind a két maroknak teljessége nagy munkával és lelki gyötrelemmel.
AS	Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and striving after wind.
KJV	Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.

KG	Viszont láték a nap alatt más hiábavalóságot.
AS	Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun.
KJV	Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.

KG	Van oly ember, aki egymaga van és nincs vele másik, sem fia, sem atyjafia nincs; mindazáltal nincs vége minden ő fáradságának, és az ő szeme is meg nem elégszik gazdagsággal, hogy azt mondaná: vajjon kinek munkálkodom, hogy az én lelkemet minden jótól megfosztom? Ez is hiábavalóság és gonosz foglalatosság!
AS	There is one that is alone, and he hath not a second; yea, he hath neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with riches. For whom then, `saith he', do I labor, and deprive my soul of good? This also is vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.

KG	Sokkal jobban van dolga a kettőnek, hogynem az egynek; mert azoknak jó jutalmok van az ő munkájokból.

KG	Mert ha elesnek is, az egyik felemeli a társát. Jaj pedig az egyedülvalónak, ha elesik, és nincsen, aki őt felemelje.
AS	For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, and hath not another to lift him up.

KG	Hogyha együtt feküsznek is ketten, megmelegesznek; az egyedülvaló pedig mimódon melegedhetik meg?
AS	Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one be warm `alone'?

KG	Ha az egyiket megtámadja is valaki, ketten ellene állhatnak annak; és a hármas kötél nem hamar szakad el.

KG	Jobb a szűkölködő, de bölcs gyermek a vén és bolond királynál, aki nem szenvedi el az intést többé.
AS	Better is a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king, who knoweth not how to receive admonition any more.
KJV	Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

KG	Mert az a fogságból is uralkodásra megy, holott ennek országában szegénységben született.
AS	For out of prison he came forth to be king; yea, even in his kingdom he was born poor.

KG	Láttam a nap alatt járó minden élőket a második gyermek mellett; aki amannak helyére lépendő vala.
AS	I saw all the living that walk under the sun, that they were with the youth, the second, that stood up in his stead.

KG	És hogy az egész sokaságnak nincs vége, mindazoknak, akiknek ő élén volt; mindazáltal az utánok valók már semmit nem örvendeztek ő benne. Mert ez is hiábavalóság és lelki gyötrelem!
